Limit Fats and Cholesterol Laden Foods
For a lot of people, fat equates to flavor in most foods. While it’s true that high-fat foods often taste good, eating excessive amounts of fatty or high cholesterol foods can seriously damage your cardiovascular system and put you at risk for heart disease. Some of the top foods to avoid or limit in your diet:
- Red meats
- Processed foods
- Refined foods
- High fat dairy products (whole milk, heavy cream, eggs)
Unless your doctor tells you differently, you don’t necessarily have to give these foods up entirely. Moderation is the key. Many foods that fall under the categories above are those we love to indulge with, but keep to recommended portions and you may still be able to include them in your balanced diet.
Eat More Vegetables and Fruits
You’ve been told this since you were a kid. Mom and dad forcing you to clean your plate of vegetables was a benefit after all. Fruits and vegetables are rich sources of vitamins and nutrients as well as low calorie. In addition, they can curb your appetite for high-fat foods. This is excellent for your heart and your waistline.
It’s always best to eat fresh vegetables and fruits, we’ve listed a few great options for you to snack on or enjoy as part of a main dish:

These are just a few options, of course. Diversify your pallet and eat right.
Even too much of a great thing can still be bad, because it’s in excess of what you can take in or what is normal. Make sure you portion each meal to a single serving, you don’t always have to eat to feel full to be properly sustained.
